Last Minute Gift Ideas

8 more days until Christmas!! Yikes! Sadly I have not done our family Christmas Card yet. With one kid in college the photo opportunities happen less frequently. For some reason we could not find the time at Thanksgiving. So if I do a card this year it will have to be a New Years card, we’ll see how motivated I am after the holidays to get that done! 😉 I usually buy a couple of extra gifts to have on hand in case I’m invited to a party or one of my kids are invited to something. There are a lot of super easy gifts that can be had either by baking or just running to the grocery store. Here are a few of my favorite: 10 Last Minute Gift Ideas 1. Magazine subscription – This one is so easy. Just grab their favorite magazine at the supermarket  and wrap it with a note saying it includes a year long subscription. 2. Food Basket – Got a foodie on your list? Head to World Market or Whole Foods. Buy flavored oils, salts a nice balsamic vinegar and toss in some crackers or bread. 3. Food Basket 2 – Got a sweet tooth? Gourmet chocolates from Whole Foods, yum! 4. Coffee or Travel Mug – You can fill it with hot chocolate mix or Starbucks gift card. 5. Fun Socks – Perfect for kids. There are tons of fun patterns, you can’t go wrong. 6. Office Supplies – Head to your local office supply store and pick up some fun note pads, quirky paper clips and writing utensils. 7. Baked Goods – Everyone loves home made cookies, candy...

Pantone Color of the Year and Cool Designer Gifts

Every year Pantone chooses it’s color of the year. This year the color Marsala was chosen. Here is how Pantone describes Marsala, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” I’m not sure about all of that but I do know that it is a major transition from the colors over the past few years which were brighter, happier colors. Are we seeing a trend back towards earthier colors over the next few years? Is Avocado Green next? 🙂 Pantone also has some really fun gifts that any designer on your list will drool over! Check them out...

What are you Thankful for?

We are heading into the homestretch of holidays. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I love getting together with family and sharing great food and great company. We usually do 2 Thanksgivings, one with my side of the family and the next day with my husband’s side of the family. Double doses of turkey, cranberry and yummy sweet potatoes. My mom keeps the menu the same every year and we grumble if she changes anything. 🙂 We only get cranberry mold and candied sweet potatoes once a year, you can experiment with other dishes 364 other days! We start off with cream of mushroom soup and then head into a food overdose with; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, candied yams, rolls, stuffing, etc. We also usually try to take holiday pictures that day while we are on a walk. What are some of your traditions and what are you thankful for? For me having family so close is great! Check out our cute placemats from Frecklebox.com, perfect for setting your table. You can also download these FREE S+K placecards here; turkey and leaves. Just print on cover stock, trim and fill in the name and you are good to go. Disneyland Tricks and Treats

Last week my kids had the week off from school and we decided to head to Disneyland for a super fun vacation. My son who is at SDSU and his girlfriend at UCSB met us for a couple of days also. It was an awesome trip and I wish we had even more time at the parks. I felt like we didn’t get to do everything. We got City Passes which include a 3 day hopper pass, a Universal Studios pass and a Seaworld pass. We used everything but Seaworld. We also bought tickets to the Halloween Party which was our first time doing that. If I could live in Disneyland I would, maybe without the crowds 🙂 Here are my top 10 tricks and treats. 1. Disneyland Silhouette Studio – Every time we go we get silhouettes (real cut paper silhouettes) done from the silhouette shop on Main Street. They are inexpensive ($10) and a great souvenir. Bonnie has been cutting the silhouettes at Disneyland for the last 40 years!! 2. Download the Disneyland Wait Time app. This saved us a lot of time running around. 3. Long lines? Choose the single rider line. The Cars ride which is amazing never had less than a 60 minute wait but the single rider line was always around 10-15 minutes. We often got into the same car or at least raced against each other. This may not work if you have little kids though. 4. Get in line for Peter Pan as soon as the park opens. In general try to do Fantasyland first. These rides do not have fast...

I think these would make for a festive holiday table! What do you...

One of the trends that will be hot this year is bright happy colors. There will still be the traditional red cards with snowflakes (see below) but there will also be lots of white with pops of bright colors. Even traditional sayings are being replaced with playful wording. As soon as these go live I will post their...

Fun (Easy) Christmas Craft

I had a crazy busy weekend, one that included going to the mall. I suggest you stay far away, but since Macys left the sensor on my sister-in-laws gift, I had no choice. 🙁 It was scary, lots of honking! People need to take a chill pill before going. It’s going to be busy, someone will take your parking spot, and some of the things you want to buy will be sold out, deal with it. I also had two soccer games to go to and an annual -not to miss- cookie exchange. I squeezed in a few minutes to make these super cute Christmas Tree in a mason jar decorations. They are super easy and anyone can do them, plus you get to skip paying $40 for them at stores like Anthropologie. What you need: Jars with lids – any kind will do, we keep and clean spaghetti sauce jars Snow – I bought a bag of snowflakes at Home Depot, you can also use epsom salts Glitter – any color Bottle Brush Trees – Multiple sizes are good, I found mine at Hobby Lobby Glue Gun Other embellishments – Small figurines, Glittery houses, other ornaments You can glue the little trees either at the bottom of the glass jar or on the lid. I think I prefer the bottom of the jar. I tried it both ways. Then I just added fake snow and some glitter. The next one I make I think I will spray the tree with adhesive and roll it in glitter. You can decorate the lid, mine has fabric on it, or paint...
