Hard to believe another year flew by so quickly. As your kids get older time really does move at the speed of light. My middle daughter is graduating from high school this year so we are in college decisions and party and gift planning mode. It can be a super stressful time for teenagers to make such a big transition. Here are a few ideas for graduation gifts. – I saw this book in a magazine and thought it would be great, click here to order. You could also do Dr. Seuss “Oh the Places You’ll Go” with a special note. – How about a personalized pet pillow so they don’t miss their furry friends as much, buy here. – A pretty tapestry to decorate their dorm, buy here. – A portable phone charger, I’m pretty sure they will all need one of these, buy here. – A Shadow Box bank, buy here. Or make your own, directions here. Add some cash and fun gift cards and they are set. – A basket with handy items for doing laundry (quarters, dryer ball, bleach pen, etc.) – A monthly subscription so they have something to look forward to. There are many to choose from – snacks, a magazine, beauty products, art supplies, candy, etc. – A relaxing Spa Day before they had off to college – A photo book of their life so far. These are super easy to do especially if your pictures are on a site like Shutterfly. You can even include a few of their favorite recipes. Got any great ideas? We’d love to hear...
S+K Grad Card Sneak Peek

S+K Grad Card Sneak Peek

Graduation season is almost here. This year my daughter is graduating and we are waiting on hearing back from a couple of colleges. So many schools in California are impacted and getting record numbers of applications it makes it really difficult to get in. Cal State Long Beach had over 90,000 applications! We are waiting to hear from Long Beach and one other school before doing final tours and final decisions. Fingers crossed. Whichever school you get into, make the most of your time and do your best and you’ll be fine. We just finished some graduation cards that will be going up on SimplytoImpress.com and PhotoAffections.com and you get the first look at them before they go live. Check them out, hope you like...

Party Ideas

We survived our whirlwind of a week! We had senior ball, graduation, last day of school, a graduation party that we hosted, 2 soccer tournaments and a soccer party. I feel like I need a vacation! Thank goodness school is over. The graduation party was a great success and everyone had a lot of fun. We were a little worried since the set up of the party was during 100 degree heat, but by 6pm it cooled off enough to be comfortable. And by 7:30 the kids had the fire pit going. The party was for my son and niece who both graduated together from High School. My sister and I did most of the planning and set up. To make our lives a little easier, we hired a taco company to do tacos at the party. This eliminated the set up, cooking and cleaning of the main dish. We added chips, salsa and watermelon. We set out big metal buckets with drinks and also had a lemonade dispenser. For easy decorations, we bought mixed flower bouquets and split them up in blue mason jars for the tables. Our main decoration was 5 x 7 photos of the two grads growing up. This continued the theme from the invitation which used a picture of them when they were little. We had approx. 80 prints made and hung them with clothes pins in the yard. The kids thought the “shrine” was a little creepy but the guests loved it and at the end of the evening we let them pick which photos they wanted to take as souvenirs. Even their...

Inspiring Graduation Speeches

It’s that time of year, when school is winding down, senior ball is over and kids are finishing their finals. Some are moving to the next grade but some like my son are graduating high school. It seems like it was only yesterday that he started kindergarten. I had just had my third child three weeks before school started and I remember dragging all 3 of them to school every morning. The car seats, the strollers, helping in class with a baby bjorn attached to me. Now my son is 6′ 4″ and certainly doesn’t need any help in the classroom. Luckily he’s turned into a really responsible super great kid! He’s off to San Diego State next fall and we are all really proud of the man he’s become. Today we get to celebrate his accomplishments at his high school graduation. There will be inspiring speeches, hot sun, lots of crowds and a whirlwind of picture taking. But I’ll be right there pushing and shoving along with all the other parents to get the best seat in town! Here are a few really great and inspiring graduation speeches: http://youtu.be/UF8uR6Z6KLc&w=450 http://youtu.be/Bpd3raj8xww&w=450 http://youtu.be/ELC_e2QBQMk&w=450 http://youtu.be/0e8ToRVOtRo&w=450...

Grad Gift Ideas

It’s that time of year when at least someone you know is graduating from elementary school, middle school, high school or college. My son is graduating from high school and Erin’s daughter is graduating from college, I guess we are getting old!! We are throwing a grad party for my son. We are planning on buying him a laptop for school as his gift. Here are some great gifts for grads that won’t break the bank. 1. Cash and gift cards – This gift is always appreciated by grads. They will need gas money if they will be taking their car and gift cards to Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Target, the local grocery store, etc. will be well used. For fun give them a check written out for the year, $200.13. Check Costco for some great gift card options. 2. Gear from the college they are attending. Go online and order them a sweatshirt or t-shirt or get a gift card to the college store. 3. Laundry Gift Basket – Fill it with small size detergents, stain removers and softeners and include a couple of rolls of quarters. 4. Food – Give them a basket filled with granola bars, power bars, instant coffee and other essentials that won’t go bad. That way if they get the midnight munchies they won’t have to hit 7-11. 5. Personalized gifts – A personalized frame, bulletin board, towels, etc. make a great gift. 6. Your Favorite Book – Is there a book you love that you want to share, write a meaningful message inside and include a check. 7. Depending on where the student...

It’s almost the end of the school year, time sure flew by! This year I have a graduating senior. Besides figuring out college, senior ball, and graduation parties, I also need to get my act together on his announcement/invitation before it gets too late. My niece is also graduating so we will be doing a joint party for them. We just finished a bunch of new graduation designs for several sites. I love that it is so easy to personalize cards now. gifts for grads…

It’s graduation time and I don’t care who you are, you know someone who is graduating from high school, college, kindergarten, or middle school. I’m lucky enough to have a kid graduating from high school on the very same day that I have another kid graduating from middle school. Just kill me. Needless to say, there will be lots of celebration and fanfare. Here are some ideas for grad gifts: • Cash is always good for older kids, but a check tucked into a sweatshirt from their new college is even better. Kids love to wear their emblems. • A gas card is a nice alternative to cash for high school grads, keeps them from spending all their college money on Natty Light and Red Solo Cups. • Personalized stuff: a phone cover with a photo of the kid with BFFs from Zazzle, personalized school supplies (for the younger set) from Frecklebox.com, monogrammed fleece or towels. • Emergency kit: sewing stuff, basic tools, first aid supplies and candy. • A gift card from their college bookstore. Stay tuned for grad party...

got graduation?

Graduation is just around the corner and now is the time to plan your grads announcements and party invitations. Whether your son or daughter is graduating from elementary school, middle school or high school, an announcement is the perfect way to spread the happy news. There are so many choices in cards these days. I love adding photos and if you pick a card with multiple photos you can do a current photo with a baby photo, cute idea! You can also find cards that match your school colors or even your party decor. This Hawaiian themed invitation from SimplytoImpress.com comes both with and without photo options (also in boy/girl versions). The Luau is always a popular party theme. And every party store carries plenty of luau party supplies year round. I love the classic black and white look and the invitation below, found here, is perfect for a more formal look. Add your son or daughters baby picture or even a sports picture, to jazz it up. School colors are always a great option. Blue and gold are very popular. The invitation below from Invitationbox.com comes in a variety of colors. Finding the card is pretty easy just make sure to do it in enough time so you are not rushing around the week before. Start ordering now and enjoy a stress free and exciting day with your graduate. Here are some previous post we did on the subject that you might find useful, Photo Books and Extended Senior...

photobooks for little grads

June is graduation season and the pomp and circumstance is not limited to High School or College anymore. My son just graduated from Jr. Kindergarten last week. It was a formal affair complete with speeches, diplomas, and audience members sitting in the sun. Each name was read and each kid walked the walk to receive their star trophy, diploma, and goody bag. There was entertainment in the form of a choreographed song and dance number by the kids (very impressive by the way-when did they learn that?) The boys were dressed in white button down shirts, jeans, and sparkly red and blue ties. The girls were wearing white shirts, colorful tulle skirts, sparkly flats, and sparkly green and pink ties. The cuteness was unbelievable. How will future graduation ceremonies be able to top this? More importantly, how many more freaking ceremonies will there be if they start in Jr. K? It is great to recognize all of this though, and if you are a nostalgic nut like me a cute idea for a graduation gift for your kid (or you) is to make a photobook to hold memories of this time. There are several sites such as Kodak, Snapfish, and Shutterfly that make this easy. Take pictures of your kids and their friends on field trips and on the playground to remember the year. Take pictures of their artwork and the stories they write. That is a great way to get rid of the tons of paper that accumulates during the school year. If the thought of scanning a million pieces of paper sounds daunting, there are sites such...
