What’s New Wednesday – Sign of the times

We were recently asked to submit designs for a sign company. Our agent will show our presentation to multiple manufacturers and often we don’t hear anything for quite a while. It can be frustrating and difficult to wait since we are so impatient! I was the type of kid that unwrapped my Christmas presents early then rewrapped them because I could not stand waiting. So you can imagine how difficult it is for us to sometimes wait a year before we actually hear any news, whether good or bad. Sometimes things that we’ve completely forgotten about come back as a nice surprise. So we probably have another few months of waiting before we hear if any of our signs were picked up, but if they were chosen at least you can say you saw them here first! Retro Tin Signs based on our Retro Lane Design Collection, which has also been used on greeting cards and journals. We designed a line of Eat at Mom’s signage to go with our Eat at Mom’s Ceramic Collection that is currently sold at Hobby Lobby and other retailers. To see the full set of dishes click...

Simon+Kabuki Retro Collection

We are working on a new collection at Simon+Kabuki. It’s a fun one! We are illustrating retro images and adding fun pops of color and cute sayings. So far we have illustrated an old typewriter, a phone, a fan, a camera and a bike. We also thought adding in some cool converse high tops or van’s type shoes would be fun. Can you think of anything else we may have missed? I love going old school it reminds me of Leave it to Beaver, and lets me imagine a kinder gentler time period. Well at the very least a cheaper time period, I don’t know about you but paying for cell phones, cable tv and the internet sure adds a lot to the monthly bills. I didn’t live through that period so maybe it wasn’t so great, who knows?! We also have a new line of dishes coming out that has the retro feel. They should be available in Hobby Lobby early next year. As soon as we get samples we will post...

retro gifts for christmas

I love everything vintage and when I am shopping for Christmas I often try to find things that are unique. Vintage or retro fits the bill. I always check out Restoration Hardware for fun games and stocking stuffers. Although I mostly play Words with Friends on my phone now, the thought of sitting in front of the fire with a cup of hot cocoa and playing Scrabble with the family can’t be beat. They also carry several other vintage games I especially like the games that are housed in old books, they look great on the coffee table. Some other great ideas… PaperSource is also a great place to shop. So many fun things! During high school I took photography classes and worked on the school yearbook. I loved developing film and making prints and continued taking courses in college. Now a days everything is digital and my camera skills have slacked off. Since it is so easy to take pictures and delete what you don’t like, I don’t think so much about composition anymore. I found these super cute USB drives from PhotoJoJO so now I can reminisce while I backup my so-so photos. Can we introduce a whole new generation of girls to Love’s Baby Soft? It seems a bit more innocent compared to Britney Spears fragrance. Definitely check out Etsy, for great handmade and vintage gifts. You can search for an almost endless list of gift ideas. I try to fill my kids stockings with some fun retro candy as well. If you have a Powell’s shop nearby it is like a trip down memory lane....
