Friday Finds – Swimsuits!

Since it is so nice and sunny around here and next week promises temperatures in the high 80’s, I thought we should bust out some favorite swimsuits. I always love the way swim suits look in magazines and catalogs but alas, rarely do I find one that I love. I found one at Old Navy several years ago that I LIKED a lot but then lost it when I was leaving my mom’s pool and walking home. I must have dropped it in the street and someone tossed it. 🙁 Here are a few that I thought were really cute. I love the florals and retro look. They range in price from a great deal to kinda pricey. I never understood why less fabric should cost more! I’m pretty conservative so I usually end up with a tankini, even though my hubby would like a bikini. Maybe if he goes for the speedo I’ll wear a bikini. 🙂 I have not tried the bikinis at Athleta maybe they have the perfect amount of support since they are for sporty people. Have you tried them? If so let me know what you think. The links for purchasing are below. Back to School Supplies

This summer I got most of my kids back to school supplies early. Lots of glues sticks, colored pencils, folders, binders and paper. I usually take them with me so they can pick some fun stuff out or we go online and order some personalized items. We have lots of school supplies on Frecklebox.com and they ship really fast so even if you are a bit late on ordering, like school starts today and they need folders by next Monday, you should be okay! The quality is great and they have a large variety of designs for boys and girls. Got older kids and teens? PotteryBarn Teen, above, has some really cute supplies. Everything coordinates so your backpack and other supplies can match. Or are you looking for greener school supplies, if so check out Naked Binder, below. They are green, long lasting, non-toxic and safe for the environment. You also can’t go wrong with the great assortment of supplies at Target or any office store like OfficeMax. Plus Target or OfficeMax will carry that really expensive calculator that the teacher requires! Always be on the lookout for coupons or free shipping, checking the company’s Website, Facebook or Twitter can usually score a discount. Good luck and may this year go by as fast as our summer...

the shops at target

Target has a great new concept that they just launched. They’ve taken items from some popular stores and have curated and collected them for Target shoppers into The Shop. Much like their designer lines that they carry now, these items are available online and in the store. They have a great selection, Polka Dog Bakery, Privet House, Cos Bar, The Webster and The Candy Store. I really love Privet Shop which carries home decor items and hope they expand their collection. I plan on visiting my neighborhood Target and buying that awesome green pillow! Now instead of spending a million dollars at Target I can spend $2 million. My cart is always overflowing even if I just go in for detergent. Good thing everything is so reasonably priced! Now if Target could just give Simon+Kabuki a call all would be good in the world!...

Cute Totes for Spring

It’s pouring rain as I write this post, but I’m already feeling like it’s time for Spring. I think this year is going to be The Year of The Tote for me. I’m going to collect totes the way I collect sunglasses and shoes (okay, maybe not shoes-I don’t think there are enough tote bags available for that) and use them as an accessory. This sassy bag was made for me by a fabulous seamstress. Karen makes totes for her granddaughters out of super modern fabric collections, I saw one of her creations and I was jealous and whiny so she made me one too. Just goes to show you that acting like a toddler is pretty effective. But if you’re like me and you do better with power drill than a sewing machine, there are lots of options in every price range. So if you see me at the gym, the beach, the grocery store or the office, check out my tote-ally awesome...

friday finds: simon+kabuki in target!

“Someday” is now here! And look what we found! We are so excited to announce that our notebooks have finally appeared in Target! It’s a pretty awesome feeling if we do say so ourselves. We are thrilled at the start of this new adventure and look forward to adding more goodies to our collection....

designer kids: cut the clutter

You know how every house has that certain room that you explain to guests as the “junk” room, and you keep the door closed and act like there is toxic waste inside? That’s my son’s room. It is smaller in size with a whole lotta stuff, so organizing it was a challenge. First, we went through everything and made 3 piles. One pile for keep, throw away, and donate. That way you can see what is left over and pick out storage to accommodate it. I love the locker room style trend of some of the storage bins and I found these cute ones at Target on sale and they were really affordable. I love these because you can put anything in them from really small cars to larger stuffed toys and games. The locker style bins come with a label so it will be easy to locate items. If your little one can’t read yet, draw a picture of what is inside on the label. This cubby system is really convenient and saves space. Also found at Target was this cute wall shelf to hang jackets and backpacks. I placed it low enough on the wall for my son to reach in the event that he would actually hang something up. Now there is a place for everything and everything in its...

temporary home with permanent style

Remember your very first apartment? It was the place you could call your own and enjoy your independence (which is just another way of saying that you could fill your fridge with beer and your parents wouldn’t know about it). Decorating an apartment is easier than ever with finds from Ikea and Target. We moved our daughter into her first place (yes, there is already beer and a bag, yes a bag of wine in the fridge), she inherited the obsessive designer gene and her roommate’s mom works at Pottery Barn so naturally there was a 48 hour decorating frenzy. The girls already had hand me down couches, black tables and red accents. We found the bold lampshades at TJ Max on clearance, got some throw pillows and the zebra print from ikea and voila, the room came together. Small accents like a runner on the coffee table, the tray with clearance sale vases and a large plant transformed the space from an average apartment (with walls the color of baby shit, seriously) into a very cool place to hang out. My new favorite decorating tool is wall vinyl. You can find it at Target and Orchard Supply. It is inexpensive and removable so at the end of the lease you can take it down and get your full deposit back. It comes in tons of colors and patterns, we stuck with black to continue the color scheme. We used it in the dining area, the hallway and the bedroom. Starting with a color scheme is the easiest way to get a decorator look without a big budget or...
