Sip and See and Gender Reveal Showers

Have you ever heard of a Sip and See Baby Shower? I had never heard of one before being asked for designs by one of our online retailers. A Sip and See is a party mom and dad throw after the baby’s birth. Friends can come and meet the new baby, eat snacks and hang out. Kind of like an open house. Another shower card we’ve been asked to design is the Gender Reveal. With a Gender Reveal shower, the guests and sometimes the host learn at the party what the sex of the baby will be. It’s a fun theme to decorate and plan games around. Check out some of these fun ideas for Gender Reveal Showers on Pinterest. Check out some of our cards below on...

Vintage Baby

Right now I am loving all of the vintage looks that are in home decor. Mixing burlap and lots of white  is beautiful and really brightens the room. Since I always design my kids birthdays around a theme, I thought it would be fun to decorate a baby room in similar fashion, starting with the announcement. There are no babies on the horizon for me but just thinking up decorating projects makes me happy! Make sure to use lots of vintage white frames and soft pastel colors. Keep the bedding simple. A burlap or linen ruffle would look great on the crib. Vintage toys and metal buckets for storage fit in nicely. I also love the look of the tissue paper pom poms hung from the ceiling. Please don't eat these sweet treats

My hubby and I were shopping in Honolulu a few months ago and came across the cutest little store front. He was going to run into the video game store (yes, really) so I poked my head into this place and said, “I’m going to check out this candy shop” because it was too cute to pass up. As I stood in front of the glass cases, it took me several minutes before I realized I wasn’t looking at things I could eat — it was jewelry! Turns out I was inside of Q-Pot, the brain child of Japanese designer Tadaaki Wakamatsu. Q-Pot is known as the “mysterious pot” because “no one knows what will jump out of it”. And once you go inside, you’ll truly understand this concept. Q-Pot designs are incredibly cute, sweet and very much about fantasy. Wakamatsu takes ordinary food items like chocolate bars and hamburgers and turns them into dreamy, wearable works of art.   The burger and ice cream accessories come in layers, so you can add items to your stack as you wish. Don’t like tomatoes? Then just opt for lettuce and cheese instead!     Q-Pot even makes baby clothes and bags…   I ended up buying a pair of earrings that look like frosting shells. They’re a pretty pinky-coral, super girly and prefect for me since I’m a baking queen who works wonders with buttercream!...

friday finds: ohdeedoh

If you have kids and haven’t visited ohdeedoh you must-go-now! It is a super informative site for the latest and greatest ideas in kids room decorating. Plus ideas on how to live with kids in a small space without feeling like you live in a daycare – golden! It is a part of the apartment therapy site – which speaks for itself. They have great tips for renters or owners of small spaces, or just people like me who have a house with smaller than life bedrooms. Do your kids share a room? There are tips for 2 kids, 3 kids, and girl and boy shared rooms. There are oodles of pictures to go through in their kids room tours section. (Heh, I used the word oodles and now I am all distracted)....

diy: "goo goo" baby shower

Coordinating a baby shower isn’t as hard as you think. The Simon+Kabuki “Goo Goo” Shower Kit helped a bunch for my baby shower (a while ago). Set up for 24 people, it comes with plates, cups, napkins, games, coasters, clear boxes, basket grass, and stickers. Invitations and thank you notes are included as well. There is even an instruction packet for how to throw an awesome baby shower! Here is some of what my mom and sister came up with using the goodies from this kit. They were nervous to throw a shower for a crazy graphic designer (me?). This took the pressure off and I think they did a great job. My pictures don’t do it justice (I was in dire need of a decent camera back then). The stickers were used to decorate the party prize bags and they added coordinating flower pots and ribbon. The cake was done to match the invitations and the little clear boxes were filled with blue and white m&ms and used as party favors. It turned out so great! You can even get creative and use the coasters as decorations. These kits are still available in Boy, Girl, and Neutral color schemes. If you are interested, please contact...

designer kids: n is for nursery

I procrastinated on getting my first baby’s nursery ready. Not the wisest plan, since he could have come early (he was late) or I could have been too big (I was fine), but I think I work best under pressure. And I lean towards a state of denial sometimes (baby? What baby?).  But I’d been reading enough about having a baby that I knew I’d be sleep-deprived and potentially cranky, so I wanted the room to be colorful and cheery for the 3 a.m. feedings. I wanted a sleek, modern crib and became obsessed with the Netto line.  These are pretty spendy (and now owned by Maclaren), but luckily a local boutique was selling a floor sample of a discontinued model, so we got a good price on it (and I didn’t put too much thought into the fact it cost more than the headboardless metal frame my husband and I sleep on).  I wanted crib sheets in my favorite color of orange, and the pattern along the edge seemed like it might interest my son when I put him down for a nap (this was before I knew he would end up napping on me every day for 5 months).  IKEA has a lot of fun baby furniture, and I loved the bright pop of cobalt blue and peephole pulls in these dresser drawers.  And I could put all the stuffed animals I’d been buying for the baby (okay, for me) on the shelves.  I figured I had a good eight months to keep things organized on the shelves before he started tearing everything apart.  I also wanted...
