So I’m looking around my house today and (after I let out a litany of cusswords because my f’in kids don’t clean up their f’in messes) I noticed that I have collected a lot of letters. Not letters from old boyfriends or my high school bff, letters from the alphabet. I have collected them since I fell in love with type while studying design in college and right now all of my favorite shopping haunts have an abundance of beautiful letters. They are a great way to decorate your home or office and an excellent way to express yourself. I have a handpainted sign in my kitchen that says “Welcome, No Whining.” See how well that expresses myself? Here are some of my more recently acquired finds…
This is in my library, I put it in front a set of encyclopedias because can you IMAGINE actually looking anything up in a book anymore?
Right now Pottery Barn has a gorgeous pillow that I wrote about in my last post, the back has the definition of the number 3…
they have a couple of other numbers that I don’t care about, but you might.
And for Christmas, my mom got me the initials of my family. Virtually everyone who walks into my house for the first time mentions how they love this display…
You can find letters everywhere these days, antique stores are a great place to collect type from old signs. There are a lot of beautiful stencils you can use if you are on a tight budget or want a quick and easy home improvement project. Pick a name, a big idea or a favorite number and make it a unique addition to your living space. Just in case you can’t come up with one of your own, you can borrow this one – “Be nice or leave.”
