Don’t you just love that color? Pomegranate makes me think of festive holiday parties where the hostess finally gets a chance to put her feet up and enjoy the wonder that is a pomegranate martini. (Maybe it is because the hostess-me-is still recovering from the Halloween and World Series festivities. Not to mention I was very impressed that our Giants won the title wearing the appropriate seasonal colors of orange and black.) There is also something about this color that says “fall is here-let the parties begin!”. I noticed that pomegranate trees are naturally festive, decorated in their delicious fruit. According to some ancient cultures, pomegranates symbolize abundance, fertility and good luck. According to busy working moms, the pomegranate martini symbolizes diversion, amusement, and slacking. Sign me up! After field testing a few recipes, the winner is the tried and true recipe from Oprah:
- 1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice
- 2 ounces Absolute Citron vodka or white tequila
- 1 ounce Cointreau liquor
- Cup of ice
- Splash of sparkling water (optional)
- Squeeze of lemon (optional)
