Disneyland Tricks and Treats

Last week my kids had the week off from school and we decided to head to Disneyland for a super fun vacation. My son who is at SDSU and his girlfriend at UCSB met us for a couple of days also. It was an awesome trip and I wish we had even more time at the parks. I felt like we didn’t get to do everything. We got City Passes which include a 3 day hopper pass, a Universal Studios pass and a Seaworld pass. We used everything but Seaworld. We also bought tickets to the Halloween Party which was our first time doing that. If I could live in Disneyland I would, maybe without the crowds 🙂 Here are my top 10 tricks and treats. 1. Disneyland Silhouette Studio – Every time we go we get silhouettes (real cut paper silhouettes) done from the silhouette shop on Main Street. They are inexpensive ($10) and a great souvenir. Bonnie has been cutting the silhouettes at Disneyland for the last 40 years!! 2. Download the Disneyland Wait Time app. This saved us a lot of time running around. 3. Long lines? Choose the single rider line. The Cars ride which is amazing never had less than a 60 minute wait but the single rider line was always around 10-15 minutes. We often got into the same car or at least raced against each other. This may not work if you have little kids though. 4. Get in line for Peter Pan as soon as the park opens. In general try to do Fantasyland first. These rides do not have fast...

A Few of my Favorite Things

I love discovering new stuff. These are a few of my new favorites. Have you heard of or tried the app Waterlogue? It’s not a free app, it’s $2.99, but so worth it. It turns your ordinary photos into beautiful watercolors. I love the results and these would look beautiful printed on watercolor paper and framed. Here are a few examples from my photo library (before and afters), aren’t they dreamy? I also just discovered a super cool new font collection, Harman. The collection can be bought from Creative Market, which in itself is a super cool site. The collection comes with several fonts in script, inline, regular and some fun extras. Great fonts for all of our stationery designing! Last, but certainly not least and certainly not a new discovery, DISNEYLAND! Yep, I’m going in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait. It’s my favorite place on earth! What will be new for me is that I am going to go to Disney’s Halloween Party and also taking a day to go to Universal Studios. Plus I have not been to Disney since they opened Cars. Super Excited! Have you been to the party before, any advice? Oh and if my kids are good I might bring them with me....

DIY- Terrariums

I’ve always had the fantasy of being locked after hours in Disneyland. I imagined that all of the pirates and ghosts would come to life and we would have a grand old time. When I read first read “Horton hears a Who!” by Dr. Suess, I checked every dust speck and was careful where I stepped. I knew that there must be millions of little people living beneath my feet. I did not want to destroy whole cities. These fantasies of mine have never left but I did find a more “adult” way to express them recently. This summer I will be building Terrariums with my kids. It is a great summer project and fun for everyone. I was enchanted with the terrariums on twigterrariums.com. Making a terrarium is pretty easy and you probably already have most of supplies needed. What you need for your terrarium: -Glass containers with or without tops (check TJ Maxx or just clean out old sauce jars) -Gravel, sea glass or beach stones -Activated charcoal (found at a nursery or pet supply store) -Small terrarium plants -Sterile potting mix -Moss -Decorative elements   Start by putting a small amount of moss in the bottom of the container, than add your rocks. Next add a 1/4″ of charcoal and then soil. You can add small plants or air plants or just moss to your terrarium. Tweezers come in handy or if you need something longer you can fashion tweezers out of a metal hanger. Once you have your base you can get creative. You can shop in the dollhouse section of most craft stores...
