it’s all good… After our Eat at Mom’s dishes came out, we were asked to do a set for the holidays. They really liked the retro look and typography of Eat at Mom’s so we followed along those same lines with this new collection. Take a look at some of our designs. I think these would make for a festive holiday table! What do you...
I know it is still summer and school barely started, but at Simon+Kabuki it’s holiday time! Most of our holiday cards have been turned in and launched or they are about to be launched. Here are a few I thought I would share. I love that you can now get custom die cut cards fairly easily. These cards can all be found on SimplytoImpress.com. If you are like some of my friends you will have holiday cards ordered stamped and ready to go by October 31st, if you’re like me you will send them the week before Christmas! Enjoy! What’s not to love about the holidays – traffic, people fighting over the last Tickle Me Elmo doll, Grandma’s fruitcake, Uncle Joe’s drunken slurring – I digress. I love the holidays and can’t wait each year for them to arrive. Almost everyone will host family or friends during the holidays so why not make it a vintage holiday to remember. It’s easy to set the tone of the event with a great invitation mailed to all of your guests (no evites for this one). Picking the right invitation will help with the theme and color scheme. Adding food, decor and music is a lot easier with a theme. We used our vintage invitation above as our inspiration, it can be found at KodakGallery. You can use this invite for any festive holiday party, Christmas or New Years. Here are some tips to make sure your party goes off with a bang: 1. Add elegance to your soiree with a little glitter and shine, but keep it “vintage” with some weathered materials like galvanized metal or mercury glass. Try using a soft burlap runner on your food table with delicate candles. 2. Gather pinecones and spray paint them silver and gold–they don’t need to be perfect, the natural color coming through looks more aged. 3. Instead of a classic red and green color scheme, try a palette that includes browns and eggshell. 4. Use blank paper wine glass charms and write down reindeer names or holiday words like “peace,” “noel,” and “happy holidays” so your guests will know which glass belongs to them. 5. Use fringed burlap as a...
I’m feeling pretty nostalgic these days. Holidays always do that to me. After I had kids, nostalgia took on a whole new meaning and I started remembering my childhood years and the things I looked forward to: leaving cookies and milk out for Santa, trying to stay up as late as I can. To this day, this guy still brings a smile to my face: I love the Heat Miser. If you don’t know who he is then you had a deprived childhood and must rent this movie or see this video immediately. Speaking of warmth, I also love a classic vintage feel for the holidays. It brings you that warm fuzzy feeling and takes you back in time. Red, brown, and shades of taupe create a warm color palette for a cozy vintage Christmas dinner or get together. If you haven’t yet finished your holiday card project, the Simon+Kabuki Vintage Christmas photo card is a great place to start. I haven’t started my Christmas shopping yet, so the last thing on my mind is wrapping gifts. But when I am done with all the gift searching, buying, trading, online clicking, finagling, parking lot arguing (TMI) one thing that I actually look forward to is wrapping gifts. Yes, really. I think it is mostly because of the fun ideas that can be used, and it is a great excuse to get all designy. Any time I can incorporate coordinating colors or themes into a project, I’m there. Coordinating the tree with the gifts is always a fun idea although that is the point in which my husband starts saying “sure, whatever you think honey”. Okay. Feeling traditional? Bring to life the old favorite combos of gold and silver and red and white. As you can see below, if you have a coordinating couch that is a plus but please don’t feel the need to add that to your Christmas decorations shopping list. You can pretty much decorate a tree and wrapping with whatever your mind can come up with: Who can not smile at a gerber daisy themed tree and wrapping? Merry Spring Christmas everyone! That has a great ring to it. (Or maybe it’s time to send myself to a warm vacation...
December is the time of year when you and the little ones in your life can get reacquainted with holiday traditions, or maybe start a new one. It is fun to get kids into making a project that they can look forward to each year. Especially when the weather is freezing and everyone is cooped up (banging each other over the head with wrapping paper rolls) inside. We like to “try” something new each year and if in the process it sucks or the kids cry then we just decide to drop the idea next year. Easy, right? Looking around for ideas, I found these adorable little glitter houses that look fun to make. With glue and glitter your kids will think you are awesome. Or the traditional gingerbread men are always a hit. I like making gingerbread men and decorating them all in different outfits (it’s a designer thing). With gingerbread men, you too can be a designer with little effort. You don’t have to get all “Project Runway” on them, but you can be creative. A little colored frosting and imagination can go a long way. Or if you are feeling especially innovative they can take on a life of their own like these fun gingerbread reindeers from Martha Stewart. Cute or what? I think I’ll try these this...
Well, almost. It is not officially winter, Santa is still on vacation and the Thanksgiving turkeys are still out there strutting their stuff. We, however, are getting in the spirit over here. We’ll leave the turkeys to their business but we have something to help you kick off the holdiays. It’s time to order those Holiday cards! We are really excited to announce our new lines. You can find them on Kodak by selecting Simon + Kabuki on the left hand side. See them also on Snapfish . Check out our collections and let us know what you think! Enjoy! Update: our “Believe” design is currently voted the most favorite holiday card design on Kodak. We are...
