Let’s do some Decorating!

Let’s do some Decorating!

Have you ever bought real art? Not the kind you find at World Market or Pier 1, although nothing wrong with that, but the kind where you can see the artist and get to know them and customize your order. Well now you can and it’s really easy. There are lot’s of options like Etsy, Minted and Simply to Impress. We have a large stationery line with Simply to Impress and now I’m super excited to announce our new Art Prints. The great thing about ordering through Simply to Impress is the awesome options they have. You can get your print framed or unframed, mounted standard, floating or deckled plus some can be personalized as well. Not long ago I purchased some art online and made the mistake of not getting it framed right then and there. I thought I could find some great frame elsewhere that would be perfect. After traipsing all over town and spending more in gas than the frame would have cost, I finally ordered it online. Lesson learned. Take a look at some of our new prints, HERE. Let us know what you think. And if you make a purchase (thank you by the way!) send us a picture of it hanging, we’d love to see it!...
Back to School with S+K

Back to School with S+K

For my kids it’s the dreaded last week before school starts back up again. That means we have to try to cram a million things into one week that we’ve wanted to do all summer. I don’t know how it goes so fast! We have a beach boardwalk day planned, the movies, a birthday to celebrate and probably some last minute shopping. I always try to get all of their school supplies before school starts so at least that’s out of the way. I know I will need to go out the first week anyway because there will be some oddball item on a teacher’s list that I didn’t get! To help with your sanity and also to make your kid a superstar at school, why not shop online for personalized school supplies? We have a great selection of school products at Frecklebox.com, everything from binders to lunch boxes all in coordinating patterns. The hardest part for you will be getting your little cutie to pick their favorite. To see all of our patterns click on the Frecklebox link above or to go to these designs specifically, Rainbow Chevron, Cutie Birds and Floral...

Celebrate National Letter Writing Month!

Celebrate National Letter Writing Month!

Did you know there was an entire month devoted to letter writing? Me neither! It’s an annual effort to promote literacy and celebrate the art of letter writing. Letter writing is a way of preserving history. We all know that everyone has a stash of special letters saved. I still look at all of my notes/letters passed during high school and college. I love getting letters and packages from people it is so fun. I know we can all send email thank yous and party invites but isn’t getting something in the mail so much more meaningful? I always have my kids send thank yous after Christmas or their birthdays. It’s fun to add in pictures or drawings as well. I know my parents love getting hand written notes from their grandkids, they keep them on the frig for all to see. Here are some links to note cards we’ve designed: SimplytoImpress.com Tinyprints.com Invitationbox.com...

Imagine – New Year, New Outlook

Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? I usually don’t make any except maybe a couple of silly ones, like always buy the correct sized clothes – I sometimes grab things just because they are on sale 🙂 I make a lot of lists so I feel like I cover most things in my lists. I have a house list, a garden list, a books I want to read list, movies I want to see list, places to visit list and of course a work list. One of the things we are trying to figure out at work is if we want to manufacture and sell our designs on our own as well as license. It seems like these days you have to try a little bit of everything. If you have any thoughts to share we are all ears. I’ve read a lot about picking a word for the year, to live by. I’ve decided that my word will be Imagine! Isn’t that an awesome word?! It holds so many possibilities and it can mean so many things big and small. What about you, have you picked a word? We didn’t go out of town over the break, just stayed local, but looking at my camera roll, it feels like we did. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Here are some pictures – from a crazy, huge, amazing rainbow (we finally got some rain here in California), to hiking in the mountains, to days at the beach. It was a great break. I can only IMAGINE what 2015 will...

Last Minute Gift Ideas

8 more days until Christmas!! Yikes! Sadly I have not done our family Christmas Card yet. With one kid in college the photo opportunities happen less frequently. For some reason we could not find the time at Thanksgiving. So if I do a card this year it will have to be a New Years card, we’ll see how motivated I am after the holidays to get that done! 😉 I usually buy a couple of extra gifts to have on hand in case I’m invited to a party or one of my kids are invited to something. There are a lot of super easy gifts that can be had either by baking or just running to the grocery store. Here are a few of my favorite: 10 Last Minute Gift Ideas 1. Magazine subscription – This one is so easy. Just grab their favorite magazine at the supermarket  and wrap it with a note saying it includes a year long subscription. 2. Food Basket – Got a foodie on your list? Head to World Market or Whole Foods. Buy flavored oils, salts a nice balsamic vinegar and toss in some crackers or bread. 3. Food Basket 2 – Got a sweet tooth? Gourmet chocolates from Whole Foods, yum! 4. Coffee or Travel Mug – You can fill it with hot chocolate mix or Starbucks gift card. 5. Fun Socks – Perfect for kids. There are tons of fun patterns, you can’t go wrong. 6. Office Supplies – Head to your local office supply store and pick up some fun note pads, quirky paper clips and writing utensils. 7. Baked Goods – Everyone loves home made cookies, candy...

Pantone Color of the Year and Cool Designer Gifts

Every year Pantone chooses it’s color of the year. This year the color Marsala was chosen. Here is how Pantone describes Marsala, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” I’m not sure about all of that but I do know that it is a major transition from the colors over the past few years which were brighter, happier colors. Are we seeing a trend back towards earthier colors over the next few years? Is Avocado Green next? 🙂 Pantone also has some really fun gifts that any designer on your list will drool over! Check them out...

Disneyland Tricks and Treats

Last week my kids had the week off from school and we decided to head to Disneyland for a super fun vacation. My son who is at SDSU and his girlfriend at UCSB met us for a couple of days also. It was an awesome trip and I wish we had even more time at the parks. I felt like we didn’t get to do everything. We got City Passes which include a 3 day hopper pass, a Universal Studios pass and a Seaworld pass. We used everything but Seaworld. We also bought tickets to the Halloween Party which was our first time doing that. If I could live in Disneyland I would, maybe without the crowds 🙂 Here are my top 10 tricks and treats. 1. Disneyland Silhouette Studio – Every time we go we get silhouettes (real cut paper silhouettes) done from the silhouette shop on Main Street. They are inexpensive ($10) and a great souvenir. Bonnie has been cutting the silhouettes at Disneyland for the last 40 years!! 2. Download the Disneyland Wait Time app. This saved us a lot of time running around. 3. Long lines? Choose the single rider line. The Cars ride which is amazing never had less than a 60 minute wait but the single rider line was always around 10-15 minutes. We often got into the same car or at least raced against each other. This may not work if you have little kids though. 4. Get in line for Peter Pan as soon as the park opens. In general try to do Fantasyland first. These rides do not have fast...

Let’s get Crafty!

I had this really cool pillow that I loved but after a couple of years the burlap backing was tattered and torn so I decided to re-purpose it. I bought a decorative chipboard shape at Hobby Lobby a while ago. At the time I just thought it was cool and that it would come in handy some day. I was originally thinking to mount a watercolor photo on it and I may need to go back and get another one for that project but in the meantime it worked great for this project. Let’s get Started You will need Mod Podge, a sponge applicator or brush, an old credit card and any surface for mounting. You could use old barn wood, maybe glass, cork – just use your imagination! I figured out approximately where I wanted the bird to be and then cut down my fabric to be just slightly larger. Apply a generous amount of mod podge and apply fabric. Use your credit card to smooth out any bubbles. I then used mod podge on the sides and attached the fabric there as well. You could cut it out to be the exact shape and finish with a ribbon trim or paint also. These would make great Christmas gifts and easy enough for your kids to do for their friends. You could also buy pre-made cork squares and cover those for a cute cork board....

A Few of my Favorite Things

I love discovering new stuff. These are a few of my new favorites. Have you heard of or tried the app Waterlogue? It’s not a free app, it’s $2.99, but so worth it. It turns your ordinary photos into beautiful watercolors. I love the results and these would look beautiful printed on watercolor paper and framed. Here are a few examples from my photo library (before and afters), aren’t they dreamy? I also just discovered a super cool new font collection, Harman. The collection can be bought from Creative Market, which in itself is a super cool site. The collection comes with several fonts in script, inline, regular and some fun extras. Great fonts for all of our stationery designing! Last, but certainly not least and certainly not a new discovery, DISNEYLAND! Yep, I’m going in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait. It’s my favorite place on earth! What will be new for me is that I am going to go to Disney’s Halloween Party and also taking a day to go to Universal Studios. Plus I have not been to Disney since they opened Cars. Super Excited! Have you been to the party before, any advice? Oh and if my kids are good I might bring them with me....
