Pantone Color of the Year and Cool Designer Gifts

Every year Pantone chooses it’s color of the year. This year the color Marsala was chosen. Here is how Pantone describes Marsala, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” I’m not sure about all of that but I do know that it is a major transition from the colors over the past few years which were brighter, happier colors. Are we seeing a trend back towards earthier colors over the next few years? Is Avocado Green next? 🙂 Pantone also has some really fun gifts that any designer on your list will drool over! Pantone Color of the Year

Each year the folks at Pantone pick a new color that they predict will be the hot color of the year. This year they chose Radian Orchid. Here is Pantone’s description of Radiant Orchid, “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.” They definitely have a way with words – doesn’t that color sound awesome! Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of purple. I see things in purple either in fashion, home decor or stationery and think it looks pretty but not for me. I guess it’s too flashy for me! But I do love it in the garden! Check out their Pinterest Board for some great ideas. Here’s a few to get you started and some previous Pantone color of the year choices, love the...

Tangerine Tango – Pantone Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute just announced their color of the year and it is Tangerine Tango. Pantone is the global authority on color and the originator of the color matching system that established standards for the use of color in manufacturing and print. That means every time you pick a color it will match in fabric or paint. Pretty cool. Orange has never been a super popular color until lately when people have noticed that it pairs great with most other colors. Add it to gray to give your outfit, design or room a pop of color and a modern feel. It also goes great with colors like navy and even red. Add pinks and you get a tropical vibe. It has a friendly happy tone, an instant pick me up. As designers we have always loved orange and try to add it whenever possible. Now we have the proof that we were right all along! Here are some great ideas from home to fashion. I love an all white kitchen and adding just a pop of color or adding throw pillows with orange accents to brighten a room. Have fun adding some Tangerine Tango to your life this year! For more ideas on adding color check out our Pinterest...

color huesday: think pink

The PANTONE color of the year is Honeysuckle and I can’t be happier. Aside from being a happy color, it is saving me from having to re-paint my daughters room. I told her that her pink walls at least had to stay all the way through 2011 being the color of the year and all. PANTONE describes it as “Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year.” (Yeah, lets not get too carried away description people.) Bring on the pink! Look for Honeysuckle pink popping up everywhere in weddings, home decor, fashion, and cosmetics. This color flatters every skin tone when worn by both men and women. If you are planning a wedding, it could not be a better time to try this super excellent tool for color matching. I wish there was one of these when I was searching for the perfect color for my bridesmaids dresses back in the day. Now excuse me while I go buy some pink frosting to go with my pink cupcakes. What… I’m...
