Pantone Color of the Year and Cool Designer Gifts

Every year Pantone chooses it’s color of the year. This year the color Marsala was chosen. Here is how Pantone describes Marsala, “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” I’m not sure about all of that but I do know that it is a major transition from the colors over the past few years which were brighter, happier colors. Are we seeing a trend back towards earthier colors over the next few years? Is Avocado Green next? 🙂 Pantone also has some really fun gifts that any designer on your list will drool over! Check them out...

Pantone Color of the Year

Each year the folks at Pantone pick a new color that they predict will be the hot color of the year. This year they chose Radian Orchid. Here is Pantone’s description of Radiant Orchid, “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.” They definitely have a way with words – doesn’t that color sound awesome! Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of purple. I see things in purple either in fashion, home decor or stationery and think it looks pretty but not for me. I guess it’s too flashy for me! But I do love it in the garden! Check out their Pinterest Board for some great ideas. Here’s a few to get you started and some previous Pantone color of the year choices, love the...

Pantone Color of the Year – Emerald

“Emerald, a vivid verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight as well as promoting balance and harmony.” Sounds good to me. I love that Pantone has picked bright, fun, full of energy colors over the last few years. Emerald green is the most abundant hue in nature, we see more green than any other color. It brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation. So it only makes sense that in the year 2013 as we try to move forward into a better economy and greener, healthier lifestyle we choose the best color to represent that!   Purse, iPhone Case, House, Kitchen,...

what's new wednesday – tangerine tango

In honor of our new color of the year, Tangerine Tango, I decided to take one of our popular patterns and adapt it using Tangerine Tango. I started with Mediterranean Dreams (click to see the original blue and green pattern) and adjusted the colors. It is amazing what a difference using new colors makes. The original definitely has a Mediterranean feel to it, soft and soothing, but with orange and pink I felt like I was transported to India with the colorful saris and fabric you see there. There are so many options with using this color and how the different color combinations evoke different feelings. It will be fun to experiment with Tangerine Tango this year.        ...

Tangerine Tango – Pantone Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute just announced their color of the year and it is Tangerine Tango. Pantone is the global authority on color and the originator of the color matching system that established standards for the use of color in manufacturing and print. That means every time you pick a color it will match in fabric or paint. Pretty cool. Orange has never been a super popular color until lately when people have noticed that it pairs great with most other colors. Add it to gray to give your outfit, design or room a pop of color and a modern feel. It also goes great with colors like navy and even red. Add pinks and you get a tropical vibe. It has a friendly happy tone, an instant pick me up. As designers we have always loved orange and try to add it whenever possible. Now we have the proof that we were right all along! Here are some great ideas from home to fashion. I love an all white kitchen and adding just a pop of color or adding throw pillows with orange accents to brighten a room. Have fun adding some Tangerine Tango to your life this year! For more ideas on adding color check out our Pinterest...

color huesday: pms and mother nature…a match made in heaven

Today we are not going to talk about how you can relieve your PMS by taking a walk in field of daisies. Or which PMS relief drugs will make you feel as though you are a daisy, swaying in the mid-day breeze (if anyone finds that one, let me know). Instead we bring you color! Let’s look at how PMS (Pantone Matching System) pairs with good old Mother Nature and inspires fresh color palettes. For those who don’t know, PMS is a standardized color reproduction system widely used by graphic designers and print houses. This system allows you to specify colors by indicating the Pantone name or number. By standardizing the colors, different manufacturers in different locations can all refer to the Pantone system to make sure colors match without direct contact with one another. Sweet. We created a collection of patterns called “The Shore.” Inspired by sand and sea, this color palette has the feeling of fresh sea air and heat of the sun. Those cute little pinchy lobsters make me smile. Another collection we have called “Juicy Blossoms” is inspired by the feeling you have when you are in a garden. I love the way this small palette can be expanded into so many happy patterns. This is what it feels like to sit on a bench in a garden, surrounded by beautiful flowers, and taking in the fragrance and enjoying the quiet. Let’s go make some...

color huesday: think pink

The PANTONE color of the year is Honeysuckle and I can’t be happier. Aside from being a happy color, it is saving me from having to re-paint my daughters room. I told her that her pink walls at least had to stay all the way through 2011 being the color of the year and all. PANTONE describes it as “Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year.” (Yeah, lets not get too carried away description people.) Bring on the pink! Look for Honeysuckle pink popping up everywhere in weddings, home decor, fashion, and cosmetics. This color flatters every skin tone when worn by both men and women. If you are planning a wedding, it could not be a better time to try this super excellent tool for color matching. I wish there was one of these when I was searching for the perfect color for my bridesmaids dresses back in the day. Now excuse me while I go buy some pink frosting to go with my pink cupcakes. What… I’m...
