Welcome to Fall

Welcome to Fall

It is starting to cool off a bit in Northern California and I’m craving a good Pumpkin Spice Latte! I want my whole house to smell like Fall and pumpkins, so I recently ordered several candles from Wax Cabin Candle. I light the Pumpkin Horchata candle and it smells like someone is baking a yummy cake in my house, I love it! I also ordered a few of their other best sellers – Lavandou Fizz, Cozy Cabin and Brunch. I have always loved anything Lavender and it makes me feel like I am having a spa day. Since there is very little travel going on right now, Cozy Cabin made me feel like I was in a log cabin in the woods 🙂 The great thing about these candles is that they are 100% soy wax grown in America and they are hand poured in New Jersey. They last a long time and smell great! They have a nice selection of fun boozy candles and even Mandles (candles for your man). Wax Cabin was kind enough to offer our readers a discount code to get 15% off your order. Just use code simonandkabuki15 at checkout. Check out their whole selection here Wax Cabin Candle Company.  They make perfect Christmas gifts for you or your family and friends! Happy...

New Simon+Kabuki Back to School Props

New Simon+Kabuki Back to School Props

Summer came and went so quickly, I barely had time to do anything! I think I need to keep a list of summer to do’s like I do for everything else, then maybe I’d do more of the fun things I say I want to do every year. I didn’t really go to the beach or take much of a vacation, just a few long weekends. I always loved taking pics of my kids for the first day of school. I’d do videos also if they cooperated 🙂 Now that they are older I sure do miss those days (I don’t miss all of the paperwork, homework and driving constantly). Check out our Back to School photo props for your little cuties along with the rest of our art prints, thank you notes and mugs in our Etsy...

Summer Parties

Summer Parties

Summer parties are here. I can’t believe I just typed that! It seems like a month ago that school started. Time flies by so quickly. We always spend summers in the pool with easy bar-b-ques and lazy days. Our meal planning usually consists of bbq hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken. We always have a fruit salad that gets devoured fast and usually some corn on the cob. Ice cream and popsicles always round out the day. Here are a few of our newest party invitations to get your shindig started on the right foot. You can find these at FineStationery.com. Need some party inspiration? Check out our Pinterest...

Celebrate National Letter Writing Month!

Celebrate National Letter Writing Month!

Did you know there was an entire month devoted to letter writing? Me neither! It’s an annual effort to promote literacy and celebrate the art of letter writing. Letter writing is a way of preserving history. We all know that everyone has a stash of special letters saved. I still look at all of my notes/letters passed during high school and college. I love getting letters and packages from people it is so fun. I know we can all send email thank yous and party invites but isn’t getting something in the mail so much more meaningful? I always have my kids send thank yous after Christmas or their birthdays. It’s fun to add in pictures or drawings as well. I know my parents love getting hand written notes from their grandkids, they keep them on the frig for all to see. Here are some links to note cards we’ve designed: SimplytoImpress.com Tinyprints.com Invitationbox.com...

Sip and See and Gender Reveal Showers

Have you ever heard of a Sip and See Baby Shower? I had never heard of one before being asked for designs by one of our online retailers. A Sip and See is a party mom and dad throw after the baby’s birth. Friends can come and meet the new baby, eat snacks and hang out. Kind of like an open house. Another shower card we’ve been asked to design is the Gender Reveal. With a Gender Reveal shower, the guests and sometimes the host learn at the party what the sex of the baby will be. It’s a fun theme to decorate and plan games around. Check out some of these fun ideas for Gender Reveal Showers on Pinterest. Check out some of our cards below on...

Imagine – New Year, New Outlook

Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? I usually don’t make any except maybe a couple of silly ones, like always buy the correct sized clothes – I sometimes grab things just because they are on sale 🙂 I make a lot of lists so I feel like I cover most things in my lists. I have a house list, a garden list, a books I want to read list, movies I want to see list, places to visit list and of course a work list. One of the things we are trying to figure out at work is if we want to manufacture and sell our designs on our own as well as license. It seems like these days you have to try a little bit of everything. If you have any thoughts to share we are all ears. I’ve read a lot about picking a word for the year, to live by. I’ve decided that my word will be Imagine! Isn’t that an awesome word?! It holds so many possibilities and it can mean so many things big and small. What about you, have you picked a word? We didn’t go out of town over the break, just stayed local, but looking at my camera roll, it feels like we did. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Here are some pictures – from a crazy, huge, amazing rainbow (we finally got some rain here in California), to hiking in the mountains, to days at the beach. It was a great break. I can only IMAGINE what 2015 will...

Last Minute Gift Ideas

8 more days until Christmas!! Yikes! Sadly I have not done our family Christmas Card yet. With one kid in college the photo opportunities happen less frequently. For some reason we could not find the time at Thanksgiving. So if I do a card this year it will have to be a New Years card, we’ll see how motivated I am after the holidays to get that done! 😉 I usually buy a couple of extra gifts to have on hand in case I’m invited to a party or one of my kids are invited to something. There are a lot of super easy gifts that can be had either by baking or just running to the grocery store. Here are a few of my favorite: 10 Last Minute Gift Ideas 1. Magazine subscription – This one is so easy. Just grab their favorite magazine at the supermarket  and wrap it with a note saying it includes a year long subscription. 2. Food Basket – Got a foodie on your list? Head to World Market or Whole Foods. Buy flavored oils, salts a nice balsamic vinegar and toss in some crackers or bread. 3. Food Basket 2 – Got a sweet tooth? Gourmet chocolates from Whole Foods, yum! 4. Coffee or Travel Mug – You can fill it with hot chocolate mix or Starbucks gift card. 5. Fun Socks – Perfect for kids. There are tons of fun patterns, you can’t go wrong. 6. Office Supplies – Head to your local office supply store and pick up some fun note pads, quirky paper clips and writing utensils. 7. Baked Goods – Everyone loves home made cookies, candy...

What are you Thankful for?

We are heading into the homestretch of holidays. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I love getting together with family and sharing great food and great company. We usually do 2 Thanksgivings, one with my side of the family and the next day with my husband’s side of the family. Double doses of turkey, cranberry and yummy sweet potatoes. My mom keeps the menu the same every year and we grumble if she changes anything. 🙂 We only get cranberry mold and candied sweet potatoes once a year, you can experiment with other dishes 364 other days! We start off with cream of mushroom soup and then head into a food overdose with; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, candied yams, rolls, stuffing, etc. We also usually try to take holiday pictures that day while we are on a walk. What are some of your traditions and what are you thankful for? For me having family so close is great! Check out our cute placemats from Frecklebox.com, perfect for setting your table. You can also download these FREE S+K placecards here; turkey and leaves. Just print on cover stock, trim and fill in the name and you are good to go. Did you take some great photos this summer that would be perfect for holiday cards? If not you still have time to capture those smiles! Here are some tips for taking the perfect picture. I usually take mine at Thanksgiving, which is a little late but with one son in college it’s when we are all together. I just make sure to have my card picked out and ready to go. Disneyland Tricks and Treats

Last week my kids had the week off from school and we decided to head to Disneyland for a super fun vacation. My son who is at SDSU and his girlfriend at UCSB met us for a couple of days also. It was an awesome trip and I wish we had even more time at the parks. I felt like we didn’t get to do everything. We got City Passes which include a 3 day hopper pass, a Universal Studios pass and a Seaworld pass. We used everything but Seaworld. We also bought tickets to the Halloween Party which was our first time doing that. If I could live in Disneyland I would, maybe without the crowds 🙂 Here are my top 10 tricks and treats. 1. Disneyland Silhouette Studio – Every time we go we get silhouettes (real cut paper silhouettes) done from the silhouette shop on Main Street. They are inexpensive ($10) and a great souvenir. Bonnie has been cutting the silhouettes at Disneyland for the last 40 years!! 2. Download the Disneyland Wait Time app. This saved us a lot of time running around. 3. Long lines? Choose the single rider line. The Cars ride which is amazing never had less than a 60 minute wait but the single rider line was always around 10-15 minutes. We often got into the same car or at least raced against each other. This may not work if you have little kids though. 4. Get in line for Peter Pan as soon as the park opens. In general try to do Fantasyland first. These rides do not have fast...

A Few of my Favorite Things

I love discovering new stuff. These are a few of my new favorites. Have you heard of or tried the app Waterlogue? It’s not a free app, it’s $2.99, but so worth it. It turns your ordinary photos into beautiful watercolors. I love the results and these would look beautiful printed on watercolor paper and framed. Here are a few examples from my photo library (before and afters), aren’t they dreamy? I also just discovered a super cool new font collection, Harman. The collection can be bought from Creative Market, which in itself is a super cool site. The collection comes with several fonts in script, inline, regular and some fun extras. Great fonts for all of our stationery designing! Last, but certainly not least and certainly not a new discovery, DISNEYLAND! Yep, I’m going in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait. It’s my favorite place on earth! What will be new for me is that I am going to go to Disney’s Halloween Party and also taking a day to go to Universal Studios. Plus I have not been to Disney since they opened Cars. Super Excited! Have you been to the party before, any advice? Oh and if my kids are good I might bring them with me....
