it’s all good… After our Eat at Mom’s dishes came out, we were asked to do a set for the holidays. They really liked the retro look and typography of Eat at Mom’s so we followed along those same lines with this new collection. Take a look at some of our designs. I think these would make for a festive holiday table! What do you...

http://youtu.be/-7aIf1YnbbU&w=475&h=385 I’m sure most of the country is back to school now that Labor Day is over. We start really early here in the Bay Area, August 13th! So my kids have been in school now for almost a month. It took some adjusting – getting up at 6:30am, making lunches, getting homework done and clothes sorted for school. Have you ever seen the movie The Jerk? Do you remember how excited Steve Martin was about getting the new phone book? That is how my kids act on Tuesdays, which are grocery shopping days around our house. They text me from school to remind me to buy things and ask if I’ve gone yet. When they get home they rush into the kitchen like it’s Christmas Day so excited to see what I’ve bought. You’d think they live in a third world country and never eat! My kids tend to walk around at school lunch to visit with their various friends, so having a good portable/walking lunch is the way to go. Here are some easy lunch ideas that my kids love: 1. pre-made salad bowls, tortilla roll ups with either meat or peanut butter, banana and honey, pumpkin muffins, sausage muffins/quiche, apples with peanut butter, frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (sometimes I make a weeks worth and throw them in the freezer). What about you, any great ideas to share? If you haven’t yet finished back to school supply shopping don’t forget to check out our fun collections on Frecklebox.com. Here’s a new collection we designed for tweens, the Prep....
After over 20 years of renting office space in various cool abodes, Simon+Kabuki has flown the coop. We rarely have clients visit us anymore so it made sense to take the plunge and move our offices to our homes now. It saves us quite a bit – no more rent, liability insurance, internet, phone system, etc. Erin and I both live in the same neighborhood and carpooled to work, so getting together to go over projects weekly is pretty easy. I wish I had a separate space for my home office but I think I have another year or two before that happens. In the meantime, I’ve set up a nice little office space in my bedroom. At first I searched the house for other little niches but in the end chose my bedroom. I don’t know about you but if you have kids there always seems to be a pile on the table or shoes near the door or dirty clothes on the floor. That is why in the end I chose my room. 🙂 As I sit here typing the birds are chirping away outside and the fountain is gurgling (and my dogs are occasionally barking and farting, nothing is perfect!). Quite pleasant for the most part! I think I may actually get more work done! Take a look at the history of our office spaces....

Last weekend I had my daughter’s sleepover birthday party. After everyone left I had a pile of chargers and clothes that needed returning. Of course we had no idea whose stuff was whose! I just ordered some personalized labels for my daughter that will help next time and any time she misplaces something (which is often)! I ordered the labels from Kidecals.com. They have lots of fun designs for boys and girls including clothing, chalkboard and keyboard labels. The personalization process was easy to use. My only issue was that I did not read very carefully so I ordered the very small size label, oops! The small label works great for clothes and all of the labels are water proof, dishwasher proof and can be thrown in the washing machine. Their packaging is really cute and funny, just up my ally. Before your kids go to camp make sure and order a set, I had to use a sharpie to mark my kid’s clothes but these labels are perfect. I think they’d also come in handy for college move-in. You can include your phone number or address on some of the bigger labels. The chalkboard labels were easy to apply and we used chalk to draw on them, you could also use a chalk pen. If you sign up for their newsletter you can get 15% off your order. Check out some of the great uses below and get...
Today was the first day back to school for my kiddies and they were not happy. This summer flew by and I feel like we did nothing. It does make me envy home schooled kids! I am hoping to go to Disneyland during our October break so that is something to look forward to! I hope you got to see our back to school products on Good Morning America, if not check out our Monday post for the video. While cleaning our office out, I ran across our very first licensed school supplies. Aren’t they fun?! I actually love the Rockin’ Princess set but unfortunately it did not get picked up yet. Maybe it will, I think it’s really cute. These were sold in stores like Staples and Office Max. There were binders, folders, notebooks and pencil cases. I love the pencil...

I must admit that I love when my kids are on summer break and totally dread the first day of school. The summer flies by and there is never enough time to do everything we want to plus work and take care of house duties! I always say we’ll hit the beach once a week or go to the park or hike but something always gets in the way. We have gone to beautiful Lake Tahoe and Santa Cruz and we are going to San Luis Obispo for a weekend soccer tournament so we have been doing some things, I just wish summer was longer! We also have to start stocking up on school supplies. Every teacher gives their list and we all head off to Target or the office supply store. I love getting them some fun and funky school supplies to start their year on the right track. We designed several Back to School Collections. Here are a couple of new ones. Check Frecklebox.com for sales on back to school and the rest of our collections. Too Cool for School Collection can be found here and The Prep collection can be found here....

Every time I go on Pinterest I feel like I’ve died and gone to design heaven. I never get bored of going through all of the beautiful pictures I’ve pinned and all of the new ones I see every day. There are amazing kitchens, quaint reading nooks, colorful gardens, to die for vacations, gorgeous typography and so much more. I wish I could redecorate my house every day in a new style! One of my favorites is florals. I love all florals but especially cottage florals. Here are a few that I’ve pinned and you can check out more on the S+K Pinterest page, here. And don’t forget to check our Where to Buy page for some fun S+K designed...
Here at Simon+Kabuki, we spend a lot of time during the Spring and Summer months coming up with new Christmas designs. Sometimes it can be hard to channel Santa when it’s super sunny and our beach chair is calling. But somehow we make it through! 🙂 Here are a few of our custom card designs for this season. One of the trends that will be hot this year is bright happy colors. There will still be the traditional red cards with snowflakes (see below) but there will also be lots of white with pops of bright colors. Even traditional sayings are being replaced with playful wording. As soon as these go live I will post their...

So many cute options on Etsy – I love the edible butterflies they would be so pretty on cupcakes! And the tiered log cupcake holder and wooden utensils are perfect for an outdoor party. Also add lots of fresh flowers in mason jars. If the party goes into the evening make sure to have a fire pit going with smores ingredients. Let’s start off with this super funny commercial that Landon Donovan made. First it is totally awesome that he can have fun with it and laugh at himself and second he should have been on the team. You can’t tell me he was not better than at least one of the 23 Klinsmann took to Brazil and just out of respect you let him play his last World Cup. Make sure to watch all the way to the end. If you are like most of the world you’re probably watching at least a few of the games in the World Cup. If you’re not and want to but don’t understand the game here are some pointers so you can better understand the game. If you want to watch while you are working (wink, wink) check out ESPN’s live streaming, much better quality this time around. I’ve grown up playing soccer my whole life and still play and coach and my 3 kids also play. It’s a fun game and even if you don’t understand it there are a lot of cute guys to watch run around! 🙂 Here are a few basics: 1. There are 32 teams in 8 groups to start. The 4 teams play each other and the top two teams in points move on to the next phase which is single elimination. 2. There are 10 field players and a goalie on the field. Each half is 45 minutes and they get a 15 minute break at half time. There are 3 substitutions of players allowed in each game. If you get a red card your...
Stripe 1. a relatively long, narrow band of a different color, appearance, weave, material, or nature from the rest of a surface or thing: the stripes of a zebra. 2. a fabric or material containing such a band or bands. 3. a strip of braid, tape, or the like. Stripes are an easy way to add either a bit of zing to your decorating or wardrobe or a way to add a soft texture. Here are a few great examples of stripes. I love that you can add anything to stripes (florals, polka dots, etc.) and it matches. No guesswork involved. Who would have thought that the lowly line could do so...
